Health Stress and Emotional Health

Stress and Emotional Health

* Stress and emotional problems cause disease and can be fatal if not addressed.

* Stress is the most common occupational hazard. It can cause problems and conflicts in the home and at work.

* Surveys indicate that over 60% of all employees suffer from work-related stress at some point.

Since many sufferers shy away from speaking out, the true figure is certain to be higher., as there is a prevailing fear of losing jobs, missing out on promotions or even losing the respect of friends and colleagues when labelled as a "stressed" or "depressed" person.

Hopelessness can overshadow and depress the sufferer.

Alleviating Stress and Related Disorders

You have taken a very important step already by actually reading this page, thereby recognizing the fact that you may have stress.

Eliminating or at least cutting down on caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and sugar-rich foods is a good start. These give you a short-term "high" or relaxing effect, but make you feel considerably worse when the effect has worn off.

One of the biggest problems people with stress encounter, is that they often have nobody to talk to about it. We have been conditioned to dismiss stress "as part of life".

I feel that stress is a major issue and should not be fobbed off. I believe that talking about stress and emotions helps unwanted baggage to be offloaded and also helps one to focus on how to alleviate it and lead a more balanced life.

The use of drugs and chemicals for suppressing the symptoms of stress can have unpleasant and distressing side effects such as agitation, insomnia, dry mouth, nausea and diarrhea.

A change in lifestyle, diet, use of affirmations, visualization, meditation and various other stress-relieving techniques are more effective ways of dealing with issues of stress and unresolved emotional issues.
